Several vegetable crops grown in Bangladesh suffer serious losses due to different diseases and insects. To combat these disease and insect problems, the Integrated Pest Management Innovation Lab (IPM IL, formerly the IPM CRSP) program in the country has developed IPM packages with several components to help farmers. Four pest resistant varieties of eggplant and two virus resistant varieties of pumpkin were developed. Grafting techniques were introduced to combat wilting in eggplant and tomato. Mass production of tricho-compost and other soil amendments were developed to control soilborne diseases of vegetable crops. Pheromone traps were used to control fruit fly in cucurbit crops. An IPM package for shoot and fruit borer control in eggplant was developed, composing of pheromone trap use, infected shoot clipping, and bio-control agent release; another package to control the leaf eating caterpillar in cabbage and cauliflower was also developed.
