Early Career Competition
The Early Career Competition has been developed for new faculty and professionals to share their discoveries and creative work to a peer audience. This opportunity is available to postdocs, early career faculty (untenured, non-tenure track, or within the first 5 years of service at their current position), and industry and governmental professionals (within the first 5 years of service at their current position) to communicate the impact of their extension, research, teaching, and other scholarly activities.
A 2 hour block of time has been scheduled on Tuesday, August 4th at the ASHS Annual Conference, for the presented papers.
In order to be included, participants must sign up for this competition when they register for the conference. Each participant will be required to submit an expanded 1000-word abstract (this is separate from abstracts submitted to the ASHS conference for poster or oral presentation), and a standard biosketch. Please use the following link https://ashs.confex.com/ashs/2015/earlycareer/papers/index.cgi to submit your application by June 1, 2015.
The top four papers will be selected and scheduled for presentation during the 2 hour block. The top presenter will receive recognition and publication fee waivers for the ASHS journal that best fits the audience for their work. This should be a full paper (not just the expanded 1000-word abstracts) and will be subject to peer review. Winning paper must be submitted for publication within one calendar year of the competition in which they won – 2015 winner must submit their paper prior to the start of the 2016 Annual Conference.
The purpose of this competition is to provide a platform for new scholars to advance their work, reputation to their peers, and to help facilitate peer-reviewed extension, teaching, or research from a wide range of horticultural professionals.
