ASHS 2015 Annual Conference

Why do you need professional mentoring?

Objective(s):
In any field, having a professional mentor can help individuals develop and advance their careers. A strong mentoring relationship is built on collaboration and the commitment to the professional development of one or both of its participants. Current research has shown the top 5 things most Millennials want to learn are: technical skills in their area of expertise; self-management and personal productivity; leadership; industry/functional knowledge; and creativity/innovative strategies. In our disciple of Horticulture, all of these important skill are necessary to be successful. A great way to master these skills in the workplace is to find a professional mentor (or two). Advice and guidance from someone at the top of your desired field and/or in your desired position(s) can help you navigate your own path to success. How do you identify and approach a suitable mentor? How do you establish a mentor/mentee relationship? What things can you expect to be gained from the relationship? These and other questions will be discussed in the session.
