Rapid advances are being made in out ability to collect vast amounts of data from the plants we study. Many researchers are intrigued by making the jump from pen and paper to digital data collection methods but are not sure where to start. In this demonstration, off-the-shelf solutions to digital data collection from our vegetable breeding program will be presented and participants will be given the chance to try some of the equipment hands on. We will show solutions for barcode printing and labeling of plots that can be transferred to crates, fruit and subsamples. USB input solutions for sample weighing and plug and play barcode scanning. They types of devices we have tried and their advantages and limitations will be reviewed and tips will be shared.
