A novel approach of directly using biomass for hydrogen production and also for fuel cell will be discussed. The natural polymeric biomasses, such as starch, cellulose, lignin, and even switchgrass and wood powders can be directly used as the bioresources to provide high electrical power density in fuel cell, and reduce the electrical consumption in hydrogen production with electrolysis method. The catalysts used in this novel process, polyoxometalates, are chemically stable, high efficiency and low cost.
