The global microbiome is a keystone element of our planet's health, just as the microbiome within all of us is associated with our health and wellbeing. Over the last decade we have been cataloguing the interpreting the dynamics of the world's microbiome, including those in plants, humans, animals, and every other conceivable ecosystem. This has provided us with an extensive understanding of the distribution and impact of the microbial ecology of our planet and our bodies. Using this information we are changing the paradigm of research and application in virtually every discipline. I will present some of the most exciting research and talk about the implications for this in our effort to improve health overall.
