Biographical Sketch: Dr. Gary R. Bachman spent 13 years with the GTE corporation in Detroit, MI and Westminster, SC. He received his BS and MS from Clemson University and his PhD. From the Ohio State University. Gary was previously on the faculty at Tennessee Tech University and Illinois State University. Currently, he is the Extension (90%) and Research (10%) Professor of Horticulture at the Coastal Research & Extension Center, Mississippi State University. Since 2010, he is the host of the awarding winning Mississippi State University Extension Service’s Southern Gardening TV, radio, newspaper columns and social media outlets. Gary and his wife Katie, who is a consultant for IBM, live in Ocean Springs, MS. They are urban homesteaders and operate the Heritage Cottage designed to be a demonstration urban farm to grow an abundance of locally grown specialty vegetables and produce all year long. Gary was recently named the Great American Gardener by the American Horticultural Society and awarded the 2019 B.Y. Morrison Communication Award.
