This talk details an ongoing investigation into any correlation between the rise in minimum temperatures here locally over the last 60 years and collection loss records from the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden (and maybe other local botanic gardens if possible). A rise in minimum temperatures could increase transplant stress as well as disease and insect damage to plants in our collections and therefore increase losses-do the numbers bear that out? Is there a significant correlation? Or are the variables involved too numerous? Both the experimental process and the results, if any, will be discussed.
