Dr. Bachman is highly respected and well known by his peers at the state, regional, national and international level as an outstanding Extension specialist and educator in regards to ornamental horticulture. Dr. Bachman in his role as an Extension educator is recognized at having made tremendous impacts with consumers of horticultural products and services. He is recognized as the voice and face of the award winning Mississippi State University Extension Service’s Southern Gardening television, newspaper and radio. These highly effective Extension outreach programs utilizes mass media to teach and educate the general public to be successful in many concepts of horticulture. The Southern Gardening newspaper column has a reach of up 1.5 million indirect contact per week. Dr. Bachman has documented assessment outcomes from his highly effective Extension educational programs. He consistently produces highly effective Extension education products for the consumer horticulture public. Since becoming the host and face of Southern Gardening in 2010 he has received more than 35 awards for producing outstanding communication products on a state, regional and national level.
